JDRF - Fun Run's for a Cure

Jacobs 1 Hour Challenge - 25th November

The next JDRF Event is the one hour challenge - simply up and down jacobs as many times as you can in the one hour.

The event will be later this year so that hopefully the ladder won't be as busy and we may also have more people there. We will be meeting at 8:30am for a 9am start.

The cost is the $10 per person with the funds being donated at the 2013 JDRF Walk for a Cure

For anyone wanting to have a real go at it the Edge 1 Hour Challenge Record is 18 times up and down.

Training for the Event

If you wish to have a few training goes for the event a few of the trainers will be on Jacobs every Thursday up until the event from 6:30am to 7:30am.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

The Walk For a Cure Results

Coming Soon!

The Walk for A Cure 21st October

The main event for Edge Fitness each year is the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes. This event aims to raise money for the research into finding a cure.

Type 1 Diabetes Statistics

  • Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in children, it occurs more frequently than cancer, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy
  • Most newly diagnosed cases are in people less than 15 years old
  • Approximately 1825 Australians are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes every year
  • Incidence is increasing at 3.2% a year
  • In Australia, around 95% of the diabetes found in children is type 1 diabetes.

From Edge Fitness we have Shaun Voysey a type one diabetic and also Adam Kukura (Ryan's Brother) and hence this is our cause and one that we are passionate to support.

Just think of all those training sessions that you find hard and think of what it may be like having to worry about your blood sugar levels, carbohydrate intake and insulin injects in addition.

We would love for you to come down and join in on the day, the details for what we are organising are below. If you are unable to take part we would always encourage spectators and helpers on the morning as there is always a lot to do. Lastly if you are not able to come along on the day we would like to encourage you to where possible make a donation on the following page.

Edge Fitness - Run

Yes we know it is a walk for a cure but we know how much you all like to run :) and we are a fitness business...

Location, time and route

The walk for a cure starts at 9:30am at Burswood Park and is a 7km walk around the Grand Farmer Bridge and the Causeway. So it is a very flat course. The Edge Fitness Marquee will actually be down along the foreshore about 500m towards the causeway as we start the run earlier - so meet here.

With Edge Fitness we are starting the run from 7:30am - the idea with our run is that it is a staggered start so the faster runners will leave about 8am. Your starting time will be given out prior to the day when you register and is based on your previous best time for the course. If you are yet to partake we will allocate you a time.

However you can only win the much coveted trophy if you have run in the past. (now is a great time though to enter and then stake your claim for the 2013 trophy if you are new :) )

BBQ and Post Event Fun

Following the run Edge Fitness will be providing a simple bbq and drinks and providing an opportunity for everyone to hang around and spend time with all the other Edge Fitness clients that you only ever get to see at these events. We will likely have a few competitions as well after (look for events such as the Edge Fitness Dash and the 90 second pushup cometition and maybe a few more)

There will also be a chance to try on and order your own individual Edge Fitness sublimated shirt.

Warmup on Stage

As is also becoming tradition Samantha Kukura will be running the warmup on the main stage. The warmup will take place at 9am and we would love to see everyone wander over to join in. Samantha has been joined in the last 3 years by Adam Rowney and last year by Tahlia Burghall and Clare Pickersgill

How to Register/ How Much

The walk for a cure is a free event, however to take part in the run we are organising there is a small fee of $15  - much cheaper than some of the other running events and 100% goes to JDRF.

Registration is easy and you can register online as part of the Edge Fitness team and simply donate your money that way against your own name.
